Spielberg Movie Set or Disaster Zone? You Be The Judge.

If you were standing in my house right at this moment, you might just think that a sequel to the movie E.T. was being set up to film.  I actually think that I could trick you into believing this.  Why? Well, if you read my post yesterday, you would know that I had a flood in my house that started on the second story and ran through to the ground floor.  In case you were wondering....No.  We didn't skim board in the water.  We most likely didn't because it was after midnight. But suffice it to say, the entire center part of my house is under the direction of what is called an 'Emergency Mitigation Company.'  They are in the process of ridding my house of anything and everything that got wet in order to avoid a mold issue.  They are removing all materials that got soaked and have these massive fans hooked up to dry out the wood and such.  So here is what this looks like right now.

You just walked through my front door.

View from the living room.
Kitchen is there to the left.

The 'zipper'  They build these in
so that someone can get into the area
when needed.  Without this zipper, I
would not be able to access half
my house.

A peek inside to see if E.T. is in there.

The walls are gone.

Ceiling is gone too.

View from the landing on the
stairs.  Below is the dining
room. Above you can see the
containment room upstairs.  I
basically have a hole through
the middle of my house.

Looking at the upstairs.
Could E.T. be up there?!

Upstairs containment room.
I swear that glow looks like
E.T.  Let's take a look.

Just kidding.

Nope. No E.T.  Just the nook minus the ruined
cabinetry with further demolition being done.

This is what the nook cabinet
 looked like all over.

The water damage was pretty extensive, but I do have fabulous news.  It did not damage the kitchen cabinets on the other side of the wall from the dining room.  Just a little bit of drywall needs to be replaced. Phew!  Huge sigh of relief!  I was not wanting to have to gut half my kitchen.!  It's bad enough.

I did get a chance to work on that little piece for the toilet table in the master bath.  Here is a sneak peek.  After all, I gotta give you something pretty to look at,...don't I?!!

Broken Pipes and Damaged House, But a Winner Too! Ha Ha!

Please pardon me for this short post today.  We were awoke in the middle of the night to the sound of water running in our house with a very loud drip noise. We had a pipe break in our second story and it ran down into the ground floor. We were able to stop the water from running.  We put buckets around and mopped up all the water that was get-able.  Unfortunately, we realized at daylight and after the specialist came out that the damage is worse than we originally thought.  But everything is fixable and we do have insurance!!  Oh well....such as life.  This too shall pass.......

I do have some great news on a happy note......this is the Ha Ha! moment of my post.....the moment that makes me smile in this very long day........The WINNER of my 100th Follower Giveaway is Deneen at Dreaming In Color!!! Congratulations!! Please send me a comment so that I can get your mailing address!!!  I gotta send out these adorable mushrooms!
The other good thing that happened today was that since I was house bound it gave me a chance to work on straightening up my studio and workshop.  I 'hired' my daughter to help and what a champion she proved herself to be!!

I am hoping to get my little project completed that I talked about earlier in the week in my blog post It's All About Toilet Paper.  Fingers crossed that I will get a chance to work on it tomorrow.  The guys come tomorrow morning early to cut open the walls in my dining room and kitchen in an attempt to mitigate more damage and mold.  Oh well...... Whatcha gonna do? Right?!   I'm thankful that I have a home to live in, wet or dry!

Lazy Days, Sipping Coffee and Going Antiquing

Ruby chillin' on the hammock
It's the lazy days of summer.....Time to slow things down a little, right?!  For me that is the case.  No more stress about schoolwork.  Just chill.  I am taking a little more time in my mornings to sip, not drink, my coffee. I am enjoying the slower pace that the heat seems to bring right along with it.  I'm giving my doggies a few more belly rubs and taking the time to enjoy my home.
Something like this...
only white.
Today, I am hitting the Hillsboro Antique Mall with my sister who is a school teacher off for the summer.  She is looking for a new chandy for her kitchen.  I am looking, well, for everything. No. Really.  I would like to find a little farmhouse bench with a chippy finish....preferably in a white for my master bathroom.  I would also like to score some old stained glass windows.  Who knows what the adventure will deliver?

The mall says on their website that they have a Cafe.  I have been in this mall twice and have never seen a Cafe. That should be interesting.  So it's lunch and shopping with my sis. Ahh...  It's summer.  Hope you are enjoying a little slower pace and a sip of your coffee too.

Don't forget about my 100th Follower Giveaway!  I am giving away these adorable mushrooms to one of my lucky followers!!  Entries close on Tonight at Midnight.  Don't miss out!
